Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is the second book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Written and illustrated by American author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney, the book was published on January 26, 2009, by Amulet Books and chronicles main character Greg Heffley’s struggles to adapt as his older brotherRodrick becomes more popular.

The book was adapted into a film of the same name, which was released on March 25, 2011.

It is Greg’s second year at middle school. He is eager to have Rodrick (his older brother) out of the house so that he can have some peace and quiet, but things don’t quite go as planned. When Rodrick starts hanging out with his new friends more, Greg becomes jealous and tries to find a way to get him in trouble. At home, Greg’s mother has started a “Mom Bucks” system, where she rewards him for good behavior with fake money that he can use to buy privilages. However, after cashing in his Mom Bucks for a jawbreaker, he accidentally swallows it and has to go to the hospital to have it removed.

To make matters worse, Rodrick finds out about the Mom Bucks and starts blackmailing Greg into doing his chores for him. In retaliation, Greg puts random items in Rodrick’s rock band’s equipment bag in an attempt to get him in trouble with their manager. This backfires when Rodrick manages to convince their manager that it was Greg who did it. As punishment, Greg is made to play one of Rodrick’s songs onstage with him at one of their concerts.

In the end, the two brothers reconcile and agree to work together to give their mother the best Mother’s Day present ever.
